By his crucifixion, Jesus has realized heaven and earth are one, he's come to terms with the realized paradise, the concurrent heaven and earth of Buddhism.
"Is there no kingdom of heaven, then?"
"There is Peter--but within us. Tthe kingdom of heaven is within us; the Devil's kingdom is without. The two kingdoms fight. War! War! Our duty is to chop down Satan with this ax." (Kazantazakis 299)
