Long not for son - how then for friend?
Fare lonely as rhinoceros.
Love cometh from companionship;
In wake of love upsurges ill;
Seeing the bane that comes of love,
Fare lonely as rhinoceros.
(Buddhist Scriptures, The Rhinoceros)
Birth is ill, sickness is ill, decay is ill, death is ill. Life is ill, the Samsaric wheel. Yes, Ill comes from love, if you see it that way.
Love is care, care requires an object, an object requires duality.
Christian compassion: care for those who suffer alongside you.
Buddhist compassion: pity for those who still stuffer in the Wheel.
One looks parallel, one looks down.

Is escape from suffering the all?
