We may note that, just as modern man considers himself to be constituted by History, the man of archaic societies declares that he is the result of a certain number of mythical events? (Eliade 12)
To know the myths is to know the origin of things. (Eliade 14)
What is different between myth And history? Both are tales of the past we tell to give ourselves a foundation. Both are constructed, molded by the biographer. Both teach us about present morality and conduct. And both have, at one point or another, been declared objective and "true". The only difference between the "historical" records and those of myth is a firmer method of recording (writing) and a greater amount of it (more historians). History seems to just be another working out of human's mythic impulse, the impulse to allow our past and origins to affect our being today.
